ANCE-Togo insists on no corruption and impunity in Togo

The president of the High Authority of the fight against Corruption and the related offences had officially opened the launching ceremony of the pilot project of actions in justice to fight corruption. The ceremony took place at Hotel ONOMO on August 29, 2017. This challenging project aims at supporting government efforts on the fight against corruption issues nationwide. More than 120 participants were present at the ceremony among which the Ambassador and Chief Delegation of European Union to Togo, the vice president of TI-Senegal, the representative of UNODC, the president of High Authority of the fight against Corruption and the related offences, the diplomatic corps, various state audit institutions and other governmental institutions, Civil Society Organizations and media professionals.

The overall objective of this three-year-project is to promote economic good governance and the fight against corruption through pilot actions in Togo court. The specific objectives are: (i) build the capacity of ANCE-Togo as the National Contact of Transparency International ; (ii) inform and train stakeholders on instruments of fight and good practices ; (iii) support lawsuit motion against corruption in Togo, the dissemination of penal code and the legal guide on corruption motion acts.

Among scheduled activities in this challenging project, we can mention institutional support to ANCE-Togo, the acquisition of management software and working equipments, technical support mission of TI, capacity building of various state audit institutions and CSOs on international instruments and good practices, stakeholders’ information on corruption, strengthening the partnership between various state audit institutions and justice stakeholders, build strong partnership with the High Authority to fight against corruption, support to the formulation and legal analysis, development and dissemination of legal guide of motion actions in court against corruption, edition and dissemination of penal code etc.

Six speeches were delivered during this launching ceremony. The first speech was delivered by the Rev. Father NIPAPE Daniel, ANCE-Togo president of board of directors. He addressed a warm welcome to all participants and then after expressed his gratitude and congratulation to togo government for it commitment for a Togo free of corruption. After expressing his desire to strengthening partnership with various state control bodies, he energically invited Togo government to reinforce corruption free measures and particularly punishment against actors and accomplices of corruption acts. The second speech was delivered by the Lawyer Papa Moussa Felix SOW, TI-Senegal vice president and former Bar Association of Senegal. In his brilliant intervention, he recalled that TI mission is to build corruption free nations worldwide. For him, ANCE-Togo initiative is beneficial and TI is supporting it firmly because it is a vital necessity to  promote good governance and transparency. Mr. Gugliemo Castaldo, anti-corruption specialist and representative of United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime came after with the third speeches by congratulating ANCE-Togo for the launching of this challenging project which will support Togo in implementing United Nation Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) through the strengthening of the prevention and cooperation between various stakeholders for repression matters on corruption acts and related offences. The representative of UNODC had reaffirmed the availability of his institution to support Togo and activities scheduled on the project in order to efficiently fight against corruption in Togo.

In a concise way, the Executive Director of ANCE-Togo, Dr. EBEH Fabrice gave a wonderful presentation of the project by emphasizing on its objectives, activities to be carried out, the target groups and the final beneficiaries

The Ambassador and Chief Delegation of European Union to Togo, Mr. Nicolas Berlanga-Martinez gave the fourth talk. In his speech, he recalled the commitment of his institution in good governance and the fight against corruption issues and invited all stakeholders involved to work together and achieve expected outcomes. The president of the High Authority of the fight against corruption and related offences, Mr. Essohana WIYAO, before opening officially the ceremony of the pilot project of actions in justice to fight corruption in Togo, had congratulated the NGO ANCE-Togo for this wonderful initiative and reaffirmed his entire commitment to cooperating and repressing any corrupt acts in Togo.

The ceremony was ended on a determination and commitment of stakeholders to working and collaborating with ANCE-Togo to fully eradicate corruption, promote transparency and good governance in order to give a chance to every Togolese to smile as it might be. The conference has known the participation of a large number of journalists showing perfect accession of media organs to the project.

It is important to recall that ANCE is a sustainable development NGO in Special Consultative Statute with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and National Contact of Transparency International in Togo.
