TOGO: Arrest of two traffickers of sea turtle at Baguida

On Saturday August 22, 2015, two traffickers of sea turtle shells were arrested at Baguida, a suburb of Lomé, in possession of four (4) shells.

Two Togolese people named respectively ANANI Koffi (32 years) and AKPELI Ben (42years) both fishermen were caught by judicial police at Baguida, a suburb of Lomé, in obvious offence of trafficking in four shells of sea turtle. The offenders were led to the premises of Judicial Police for ongoing procedures.
It should be noted that the criminal act undertook by the offenders is prohibited and punished according to the articles 87 and 127 of forest code; 61, 62 and 154 of the environmental legal framework. Indeed and by the implementation of the laws referred to, the offenders can be jailed for 2 years and fined an amount of 5 million FCFA.
